Where the dialogue began
These writings were made before the inquiry had its present shape. They record the period in which working with a large language model first became a method: questions asked before there was a vocabulary for them, formulations tried and abandoned, ideas that would later become the Books, the essays and the visual models.
They are preserved as they were written — unedited, with their hesitations and excesses intact — because the process is part of the evidence. Here the inquiry can be seen learning its own language.
